weaving classes

The beautiful Appalachian mountains where I was born and raised have a wonderful weaving heritage.  It is a real treasure. I am very grateful for the legacy of weaving and handcrafts passed along to me by many members of my family who were an important part of this heritage.  They were giving and sharing people who had a desire to pass their skills on to others.   I try to honor that legacy by sharing my knowledge, skills and understanding of fiber and weaving at every opportunity. Weaving since about age nine, I have more than 35 years of teaching experience sharing my passion for woven textiles through private classes, workshops/ lectures, and classes taught through various educational institutions and fiber organizations.
I now have the opportunity to offer weaving classes in a space next door to Oaks Gallery, starting in January 2011.  Classes listed below are some of the classes I will be offering.

Susan Morgan Leveille

Introduction to Weaving
The basics of weaving: project planning, setting up the loom, discovering pattern through color usage, choosing yarns and so much more.  Students will use the popular RigidArt In The Park 2009 Heddle loom that is portable, not intimidating and yet offers an endless range of possibilities for fabrics. Each week will include “homework”, so students may take the loom home between classes or work in the studio.  This introduction is a four-session series, meeting three hours once a week.  The cost is $150 and includes all materials.

This class will be followed by a second level, Rigid Heddle Weaving II  for those who wish to continue with this loom.
